Last Fall 4th and 5th grade students participated in a new biking program called “Let’s Go” in which they learned bicycling skills and safety. Darrington Elementary was one of a handful of rural schools to pilot this new curriculum and the students’ experiences helped inform institution for future participants around the state. Let’s Go was funded by the Move Ahead Washington transportation bill in March 2022. Implementation of Let’s Go came in under budget and facilitators wanted to put the funds toward getting youth on bicycles. So, all 5th graders who participated in the piloting of the curriculum earned a free bike with helmet, lock, and lights. 5th graders at Darrington Elementary received their new bikes on May 1st and many have been riding to school since! Many thanks to the NWESD, Cascade Bicycle Club, and Trek Bikes for making this happen.

Congratulations Darrington students Allie Cochran and Ava Pater that were awarded Outstanding Student Awards by The Arlington Rotary Clue.
Starting Thursday, April 25th, the road between the High School and Community Center leaving campus (heading north) will be closed to traffic. There will be a path for students to still walk off campus through this area.
Traffic coming through car pick-up line will turn left next to the Community Center and exit onto Sauk Avenue.
Starting Monday, April 29th, new gutter installation will be taking place around the High School. If you come onto campus, please be aware of work taking place and avoid the areas under construction.
Darrington School District Construction Update
The High School Auditorium roof has been shingled and the roof for the front entrance will be completed today, Tuesday, April 16th. The front entrance of the high school and driveway loop will be open on Wednesday, April 17th. Thank you for everyone’s cooperation as we adjusted traffic patterns and walkways to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.
The roofing company will move to repairing/reroofing the shop on Wednesday. Traffic will be modified at the west side of the shop building. We will continue to have a staff member monitoring traffic and students to ensure safety for all.
The pad for the air handler unit for the Community Center is being prepped and will be poured this week.
As a reminder, this work is being funded through a Small Rural Schools Grant from the state. It will include updating the heating system for the high school and Community Center.
