Stay Home, Stay Healthy

Gov. Inslee announced a Stay Home, Stay Healthy order Monday evening. Darrington School District will continue to provide breakfast and lunch to youth during this time, and a handful of essential staff will continue to work on campus. The rest of our staff will work from home, supporting educational resources and supports for students. Our offices will be closed during this order. Please contact us by phone (leave a message) or via email (preferred). We will reply as soon as possible. Meals on Wheels, Lunch Service Update

I’m really proud that our District continues to find new ways to address food insecurity during the COVID-19 outbreak. Thank you to our food service and transportation staff for your hard work in expanding meal service to our bus route areas. Today we supplied 98 students with meals, including 52 meals on wheels. We really appreciate the positive comments and smiles and waves we received during today’s lunch service. Drivers will be in contact with families regularly as we refine the drop-off times for lunches. If you have questions or need more information, please email our Lead Driver Toni Lenon at tkernaghan@dsd.k12.wa.us.

DNR Lawsuit

As of February 25, 2020, Darrington School District joined the American Forest Resource Council, Concrete, Quillayute Valley, & Naselle-Grays Harbor SD’s, Pacific, Skamania, Mason and Lewis Counties, and several other municipal organizations in a lawsuit against the State of Washington Department of Natural Resources.

The lawsuit is a response to DNR’s proposed timber harvest schedule, which would radically diminish harvests on public trust land over the next decade. Forest products are the number one employer in our community, and the District strongly supports our community members in this industry.

District policy is to not comment on pending legal action. We have been working with other stakeholders since December take legal action. We are pleased to stand with AFRC and local timber industry.

Meal Service Update, Meals to Rural Areas

To combat food insecurity, we will continue to provide Grab-and-Go breakfast and lunch service to any youth in need (through age 18) weekdays throughout the closure. Meals are available outside the cafeteria weekdays from 11:30am-12:30pm. Adult meals are not available at this time.

STARTING MONDAY, TRANSPORTATION STAFF will deliver meals to youth on bus routes who live outside town (in-town students will still need to pick-up at cafeteria).  Deliveries will start about 4 hours later than AM bus pick up times (about 11 AM for first stops).  Please stand back a safe distance from the road, and be at least 15 minutes early.  Drivers will make one trip only, and are not allowed to drop meals off at houses (per state guidelines).

Next week, look for the white DSD vans at your bus stop.  We have served over 120 meals the first three days, and want to serve even more next week!   We appreciate your patience and flexibility as we work out the details of this new service.  If you have any questions, please email our lead driver Toni Lenon tkernaghan@dsd.k12.wa.us for more information.
